Davian and Ethan are talking. Ethan is tied to a chair, and so is
his wife, Julia.

DAVIAN

We've put an explosive charge in your head.

Davian cocks the gun.

DAVIAN

The Rabbit's Foot. Where is it?

ETHAN

I gave it to you.

DAVIAN

Ethan, where's the Rabbit's Foot?

ETHAN

Davian puts the gun to Julia's head.

ETHAN

Ethan talks to Julia.

ETHAN

Davian shoots Julia down. Ethan screams.

ETHAN
Don't!

INT. JULIA'S HOME
Julia and Ethan are talking in front of a refrigerator.

JULIA
What are you doing?

ETHAN
Your brother wants another one.

JULIA
Oh, God, no. Ethan, that's what we talked about...

ETHAN
I'm watching him. He's fine.That's how it is with Rick.

JULIA
He's fine and then suddenly he's naked and he's hugging everybody.

ETHAN
I'll take full responsibility for Rick.

JULIA

ETHAN
Well, mostly full. It's a huge responsibility.

They kiss.

JULIA

ETHAN

JULIA

JULIA'S SISTER

ETHAN
I hope so.

JULIA'S SISTER

JULIA
I can't believe you guys came all the way to Virginia.

MOTHER

Julia's sister is making a toast, and everyone is gathered around.

JULIA'S SISTER
When Julia called and told me that she was getting married, I had
one thought,that it was just too bad that Daddy wasn't here to
walk her down the aisle. And then when Julia told me...

Julia's mother hands her sister a tissue.

JULIA'S SISTER

She continues talking.

MOTHER
That Ethan doesn't have his parents anymore, either,I got really sad.
But it occurred to me that this is about starting a new family and how
beautiful that is. And I just want to say I am making Julia an aunt, so
I expect the same treatment very, very soon.

INT. LIVING ROOM
Later, Ethan is talking to Julia's friends.

FRIEND
Department of Transportation?

ETHAN
I've been there over 10 years now.

FRIEND
Wow. What do you do at the DOT?

ETHAN
I study traffic patterns. You hit the brakes for a second,
just tap them on the freeway, you can literally track
the ripple effect of that action across a 200-mile stretch of road,
because traffic has a memory. It's amazing. It's like a living organism.

Ethan points to the man's drink.

ETHAN

Freshen that up for you? What is it, vodka martini?

FRIEND
Yeah. Thanks.

ETHAN
Ladies, do you need..

Ethan leaves to freshen up their drinks.

WOMAN 1

WOMAN 2

INT. KITCHEN
Julia is talking to her sister and friends about how she met Ethan.

FRIEND
Okay, so, a three-week heli-boarding honeymoon?
Okay, you actually get dropped...

JULIA
From a helicopter, yeah.

JULIA'S SISTER

Ethan is reading their lips from another room.

JULIA'S SISTER
Then she goes and gets in a chopper that takes off from this lake...

Ethan steps into the kitchen.

JULIA

FRIEND
He heard that?

JULIA'S SISTER
How did he hear that?

FRIEND
And the hospital's cool with you taking three weeks?

JULIA
Yeah, I'm not the only nurse employed there, you know.

INT. LIVING ROOM
Julia's brother Rick hugs Ethan.

RICK
I'm psyched that you're going to be my brother, man.

ETHAN

RICK
No, it's awesome. I think it's going to be sick.

The phone is ringing.

ETHAN
Me, too, man. I just got to get the phone.

RICK

ETHAN

Musgrave is on the phone. He is pretending to be a salesman.

MUSGRAVE
Is this Mr. Ethan Hunt?

ETHAN

EXT. YARD
Ethan throws out the ice into the backyard so he
has an excuse to see Musgrave. He walks into the
house and finds Julia.

ETHAN
We ran out of ice. I'll be back in 10 minutes.

JULIA
Oh, no. Can't somebody else go?

ETHAN
No, I got it. I'll be right back.

Ethan waves at Betsy.

ETHAN
Hi, Betsy.

INT. 7-11
Ethan drives to a nearby 7-11. He walks in and sees Musgrave.
They pretend not to know each other.

CLERK
Thank you. $1.86.

MUSGRAVE
Thanks for coming. Can't decide what size Slurpee to get.

ETHAN
I usually go for the 900-ouncer.

MUSGRAVE
How's that party? Sorry I had to call you.

ETHAN
Yeah, you should have come.

MUSGRAVE
You should have invited me.

ETHAN
You know I would have.

MUSGRAVE
Thanks. I know we joke about it, but I am always
this close to begging you to stop training our people
and get your ass back in the field. But that's not what
you do anymore, and so I respect that choice.
You know I do. Family's everything.

ETHAN
Come on, John. What's going on?

MUSGRAVE
It's Agent Farris. She was on an operation. She's disappeared.
Been off-grid 11 hours. I'm sending in Search and Rescue.
I was hoping you'd want in.

ETHAN
You've got good people for that.

MUSGRAVE
Yeah. Yep, that we do. Wheels up at sunrise if you have a
change of heart.

Musgrave leaves a disposable camera for Ethan.

MUSGRAVE
Take some pictures of the party for me.

INT. ETHAN'S ROOM
Ethan is in a room alone. He opens the disposable camera.
After a retina scan, Musgrave briefs Ethan on the mission in
a small video.

MUSGRAVE
Ethan. Three days ago, Agent Lindsey Farris was captured
while on a surveillance operation.

Various pictures of Davian are shown.

MUSGRAVE
This is the man she was tracking. His name is Owen Davian.
Details are eyes-only, but I can tell you that Davian's a
black-market trafficker. Extremely dangerous and a priority
for us. At 1400 hours today, a recon satellite ID'd a caravan
of vehicles with plates matching those known to have been
used by Davian's operatives. They stopped at a derelict factory
outside Berlin. It appears they have a hostage. We believe it's
Agent Farris. Normally we would disavow, but Lindsey may be
the key to getting us closer to Davian, and that's a risk we
need to take. Your mission, should you choose to accept it,
is to find Lindsey and bring her home. I've already assembled
a team. I have them standing by, awaiting your word. This
message, let's call it my excellent engagement gift to you,
will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Ethan, and thanks
again.

The camera self-destructs. Ethan is troubled. He goes to sleep, and
he dreams about Lindsey.

LINDSEY
Am I ready?

INT. BEDROOM
Ethan wakes up.

JULIA
You okay?

ETHAN
Yeah. You know, I'm sorry. I realized I didn't tell you that the office called
during the party. I have to go to Houston for a night. METRO's having a
public transpo conference.

JULIA
It's so last-minute.

ETHAN
I know.

EXT. IMF BASE
Ethan rides to the base on a motorcycle. When he gets off, Luther greets him.
Declan and Zhen are with him.

LUTHER
Well, well, well. Now, if it isn't Mr. "Those Who Can't Do, Teach" back in the field.
What's up, baby?

ETHAN
Hey, man.

LUTHER
Hey, Ethan, don't worry. We're going to get the girl. Or have you been away so long
you've forgotten how good we are? Welcome back, brother.

They shake hands and Ethan smiles.

EXT. BERLIN FACTORY
Ethan, Luther, Zhen, and Declan are working on the mission to rescue Lindsey from the
factory. Ethan and Zhen are in the factory for the achievement of the mission.
Luther is in the truck carrying the weapons and the communication equipment.
Declan is in the helicopter for the escape when the mission is complete.
They are talking to each other using a radio.

ETHAN
Is our truck in place? Weapons good to go?

LUTHER
Yeah. You?

ETHAN
Yeah.

LUTHER
You know I got your six.

ETHAN
Hey, man. That's your job.

They set machine guns outside the factory.

LUTHER
Guns one, activated. Guns two, activated.
Guns three, activated. Guns four, activated.
Guns ready. All four guns operational. They've
got men on the second, third, fourth floors.
I count 14 of them.

Ethan runs into the factory.

ETHAN
Observer, I'm in approach position.

DECLAN
Roger that. Stand by.

Ethan sees Lindsey. She is tied to a chair and drugged.

ETHAN
Target match.The prize is on the sixth floor.
Two Tangos with her. Moving in.

LUTHER
So, Raider One, at some point, we got to go over
this whole "getting married" thing.

ETHAN
Negative, Observer. I don't respect you nearly enough
to have that conversation.

LUTHER
You may not respect me, but for now you're stuck
with my voice in your head. So, this girl,
what the hell do you see in her anyway?

ETHAN
Who, Julia? You've never met her.

LUTHER
Yeah, and the way things are, I probably never will.
Lucky for her, right? That's what you're thinking.

ETHAN
They've got communications gear. Two Tangos, second
floor, northwest corridor.

LUTHER
Groundhog, that's you. You need to grab that gear
on the second floor as soon as we go hot.

INT. FACTORY
ZHEN is under the factory.

ZHEN
Copy that. I'll need two minutes, which means
you'll need me in one, right?

LUTHER
Yeah, just about. Raider One, make a left at the top of
the stairs. The prize should be at the end of the hall.

ETHAN
Phoenix, I have eye on the prize.

A doctor is ordering Lindsey to be drugged.

DOCTOR
Give her 10 cc's more. Call me when she wakes.
Okay.

ETHAN
We need touchdown in less than three. Do you copy?

INT, HELICOPTER

DECLAN
Roger that, I copy. Please, when do I not copy?
All I do is copy.


INT. FACTORY

ETHAN
Stand by to go live. On my mark. Three. Two.
One. Execute.

The guns begin to fire. They shoot the entire side of the factory.

COMPUTER
Warning. Warning.

LUTHER
Raider One, you're clear. Move!

Ethan shoots some men and helps Lindsey.

ETHAN
Lindsey. Lindsey.

LINDSEY
Ethan?

ETHAN
I'm going to get you home. Observer, I've got the prize.
Evac in three.

DECLAN
Roger that.

ETHAN
This is adrenaline. Lindsey, you're going to feel this.

Ethan gives Lindsey an adrenaline shot.

LUTHER
Groundhog, second floor is clear.

ZHEN
On the move!

ETHAN
Observer, we're on the move. Wrap out.
Evac in 90 seconds.

DECLAN
Roger that.

LUTHER
Phoenix, get to the LZ now.

ETHAN
Roger, Observer. On my way.

LINDSEY
Ethan. I have to talk to you.

ETHAN
Come on, come on.

Some men are shooting at Ethan and Lindsey.

LINDSEY
I have to talk to you right now! Just for you. Turn off your transmitter.
Do it, Ethan! Ethan!

ETHAN
Lindsey! Moving! Moving!

LINDSEY
Mag! Ready to move.

ETHAN
We evac from here.

LINDSEY
Get down! I'm out. How many rounds you got?

ETHAN
Enough.

Ethan shoots another man.

ETHAN
Now I'm out.

LUTHER
T minus five, baby.

ETHAN
Lindsey, hold on to me. Luther!

Ethan and Lindsey escape through a window. They use a wire to
slide down to the truck.

LUTHER
Rolling!

INT.CAR
Ethen,Lindsey and Luther are talking.

LINDSEY
God! My head! What is that?

LUTHER
What is...Is she okay?

ETHAN
Lindsey! Let's get to the chopper.

LUTHER
Zhen, get rid of the truck.

ETHAN
Let's go!

LINDSEY
God! What is that? You can't hear that?
Oh! God!

Lindsey　is dying.

INT.HELICOPTER
Ethan, Zhen, Declan, Lindsey and Luther are escaping by a helicopter.

ETHAN
Let's go! We loaded? Yeah. Let's do it! Move out!
Go, go, go, go, go!

An enemy helicopter appears.

DECLAN
Son of a bitch. No! Guys, we got company.
I'm going to try and lose them.

LINDSEY
Hurts so much. Turn it off. Please. Please, Ethan.

The enemy helicopter fires a missile.

DECLAN
Guys, their missiles are hot! Incoming! Hold on.

The missile barely misses them.

DECLAN
Okay. That was lucky. We only get one of those.

ETHAN
Do we have a defibrillator?

LINDSEY
Ethan, turn it off!

Luther starts shooting at the enemies.

LUTHER
Bring it on!


LINDSEY
Ethan! What is it? Did they put something in my head?

ETHAN
They injected you with a time-release charge.
Do you remember that?

LINDSEY
No. Time-release...

ETHAN
An explosive. They've activated it. It's gonna detonate
unless we fry the charge, which is what we're gonna do.

ZHEN
No, Ethan. Zap her like that, you'll stop her heart.

ETHAN
Then I'll zap her again and bring her back.

LINDSEY
Do it!

DECLAN
Guys! They're firing another one!

LINDSEY
Ethan!

Zhen almost falls out of the helicopter. Ethan saves her.

ETHAN
Zhen! Zhen, hold on. Hold on, hold on!

Ethan is talking to Luther.

ETHAN
I want you to set it for 150.

LUTHER
150.

ETHAN
Lindsey, I'm gonna short out
the explosive in your head.
You're gonna be okay.

LUTHER
It'll need 30 seconds.

ETHAN
Damn it.

LUTHER
Twenty-five seconds!

ETHAN
Come on.

LUTHER
We're almost there.

DECLAN
They have us locked.

ETHAN
Twenty seconds.

LUTHER
Hold on.

DECLAN
I got them!

LUTHER
Ten seconds.

ETHAN
Almost there. Almost there. Give me the paddles.

LINDSEY
Ethan. Thank you.

The bomb explodes in Lindsey's brain and she dies. Everyone
is shocked.

LUTHER
Shit.

INT. JULIA'S HOME
Ethan is depressed. He sees Julia.

JULIA
Hey.

ETHAN
Hey.

JULIA
How did it go?

ETHAN
I'm sorry. Fine. I'm sorry. I'm just tired.

INT. BRASSEL'S OFFICE
Brassel is debriefing Musgrave and Ethan

BRASSEL
I read your training brief on Agent Farris.
The words you used were "beyond capable."
That still stand, Mr. Hunt?

ETHAN
Mr. Brassel...

BRASSEL
Does it stand?

ETHAN
Yes, sir, it does.

BRASSEL
Because we've got a corpse downstairs that says otherwise.
Killed by a detonator implanted in her skull through the nasal
cavity.

ETHAN
Mr. Brassel, it's unacceptable to judge Agent Farris'
competence based...

BRASSEL
It's unacceptable that chocolate makes you fat, but I've eaten
my share. And guess what? Now, I approved Agent Farris'
surveillance op based on your evaluations, Mr. Hunt, of a woman
who allowed herself to be captured. So you go to recover her.
You encounter a dozen men. You don't grab any of them?

ETHAN
Our objective, Mr. Brassel, was to recover Agent Farris.
Davian employs a cellular structure at his organization.
The men there more than likely had no information...

BRASSEL
Who's drawing these conclusions? Is it you?

MUSGRAVE

BRASSEL
I'm not on you yet. You allowed Farris to board your chopper
without a scan. That explosive device could have taken you all out.
There is one reason that you are sitting here before me today,

and executed worse.

MUSGRAVE
Two laptops were recovered...

BRASSEL
I'm aware of that. We've talked to Tech Services. They doubt if
they can reconstitute the drives. "Crispy," I believe, is what they
called them. Worthless.

MUSGRAVE
Mr. Brassel, as Operation Manager of this office, I have the authority...

BRASSEL
Excuse me. Did you just throw a title at me, Mr. Musgrave?
I don't care if your daddy plays golf with the President.
This is Intelligence. So far I haven't seen any.
You think this op was worth the risk, Mr. Hunt.
What do you know about Owen Davian?

He was also the man who sold Toxin Five to the Armahad Republic Jihad.

I've been trying to bring Davian down since the day that I got here.

It's never been confirmed the Toxin Five theft was Davian.


BRASSEL
Mr. Musgrave, please don't interrupt me when I'm asking rhetorical questions.
Your operation has achieved one thing. You have reminded Davian
that he is winning. And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go inform Mr. and
Mrs. Farris that their baby girl was killed in a head-on collision on I-95.

EXT. CEMETERY

FATHER

I stand here today deeply saddened

by the death of one of God's children,
Lindsey Elizabeth Farris.

Ethan remembers training Lindsey to fight.

FATHER

It is always startling when the Lord
takes one of our young so unexpectedly.

ETHAN (FLASHBACK)
Be aggressive. Come on. Stay focused. Keep your knees bent. Good. Good.
Now, to fire the lock, the extractor has to be... That bag's not going to hit
you back. Hit harder. Don't rely on your sights. Keep your eyes dead on the
target...Attack me. Come on. Don't ever release the firing pin unless the

It's very simple. You point and shoot. Stay focused. Miss Farris, you know
how many recruits I've trained. I'm proud to say that you are the first

A messenger comes to Ethan's house.

ETHAN

MESSENGER
Is this Mr. Kelvin?

ETHAN

MESSENGER
I'm calling from Norfolk Mail Service.
Lindsey Farris rents a post office box here.
She sent you a piece of mail from Berlin
and asked us to call you when it arrived.
It came this morning.

ETHAN

MESSENGER

ETHAN

INT. IMF BASE

LUTHER
It's a microdot.

ETHAN

A microdot with nothing on it. This is unusual.

Lindsey wouldn't send me a blank microdot.

LUTHER

I'm telling you, man, there's no image.

ETHAN
Then you're not looking in the right place.

LUTHER
Where the hell am I supposed to look?
There's not much square footage to this thing.

ETHAN

Why would Lindsey send me a blank microdot?

LUTHER

I don't know.Why would Lindsey send you anything?

You were her instructor,not her handler. Listen, man.
I don't mean to cross the line,but was there something
going on between you two? You and Lindsey.

ETHAN

Lindsey was like my little sister.

LUTHER

And you never slept with your little sister, right?

Ethan gives Luther a look.

LUTHER
Hey, brother, if I don't ask you, who will?

ETHAN

Maybe it's magnetic. The microdot.

LUTHER

Well, that's old school. If she was in a hurry and only had
access to black-market gear, maybe.

ETHAN

Could you get the tools to read it?

LUTHER

I might know a guy.

ETHAN

Magnetic means encrypted.

LUTHER

Yeah, I know that.

Ethan gets a phone call.

ETHAN

Yeah. Be right there.
