Spiderman 3 Part 2
INT. PETER'S APARTMENT
When Peter looks at a reservation card and a ring for engagement to Mary Jane,
Mary Jane visits him apartment and knocks door.
PETER
Yeah?
MARY JANE
It's me.
PETER
Oh! Hey!
Peter looks for a place to hide the ring. He tries to hide it in a drawer.
MARY JANE
You know I can't open the door.
Peter breaks his drawer and Mary Jane can't open the door.
PETER
It's stuck again?
MARY JANE
Come on and help me.
PETER
I'm coming.
MARY JANE
The review.
PETER
Oh!
MARY JANE
They hated it. They hated me.
PETER
Well, they can't hate you.
MARY JANE
"The young Miss Watson is a pretty girl.
"Easy on the eyes, but not on the ears.
"Her small voice didn't carry past the first row."
PETER
That's ridiculous. I was right there.
MARY JANE
You were in the first row.
PETER
Yeah, but that's...Listen. You were great. That's a critic.
This is something you're gonna have to get used to.
Believe me, I know. Spider-Man gets attacked all the time.
MARY JANE
This isn't about you. It's about me. It's about my career.
PETER
I know, and I'm just saying, you can't let it bring you down.
You just gotta believe in yourself. You pull yourself together,
and you get right back on the horse.
MARY JANE
Don't give me the horse thing. Try to understand how I feel.
It's just...I look at these words, and it's like my father wrote them.
POLICE RADIO
All cars. All cars in the vicinity of 54th and 6th Ave, please report.
Crane out of control. Approach with caution.
Peter hesitates.
PETER
Go get 'em, tiger?
Mary Jane nods sadly. Peter changes into his Spiderman costume and leaves.
PETER
Sorry.
As Mary Jane leaves Peter's apartment, the alien creature in PETER'S APARTMENT hits a lamp
and makes a sound. Mary Jane stops and looks, but it hides.
EXT. STREET
A policeman is getting out of his car.
POLICEMAN
Oh my God. Seven Atom to central. That crane- It's bigger than we
thought. We're gonna need a major mobilization right away.
INT. CRANE
A driver is upset.
CRANE DRIVER
Just gotta douse the accelerator! Now!
INT. BUILDING
CAMERAMAN
OK, Gwen. I've got a secret. It's my call for ya.
What is that thing doing in my background?
He is taking pictures. After that he notices something.
The crane smashes the building.
EXT. STREET
POLICEMAN
Captain Stacey, the guys look *out of shot of it*.
They can't shut down the crane.
CAPTAIN STACEY
Get Edison on the phone.
Have them kill the power of the whole block.
INT.BUILDING
GWEN
Are you all right?
CAMERAMAN
It's coming back!
He is screaming.
EXT. STREET
BROCK
Oh my God. It's Gwen!
He is taking pictures.
CAPTAIN STACEY
What? What's she doing up there?
He is amazed.
BROCK
I don't know. I just saw her last night. She said she had a modeling gig.
CAPTAIN STACEY
Who are you?
BROCK
It's Brock, sir. Eddie Brock, jr. I work at the Daily Bugle. And I'm dating
your daughter.
Gwen is falling from the building. Spiderman saves her.
SPIDERMAN
You OK?
GWEN
Yeah. I'm fine. Thank you.
BROCK
Hey, Spidey, hold on. Bugle needs a photo.
He speaks to Gwen.
BROCK
Thank God you're OK.
GWEN
Daddy!
She is running to her father. Brock speaks to Spiderman.
BROCK
Hey. I'm the new guy.
SPIDERMAN
New guy?
BROCK
From now on, I'm gonna be taking shots of you for the Bugle.
So-- smile! Are you smiling?
SPIDERMAN
Where's the other guy?
BROCK
Peter Parker? Yeah, um, look, between you and me-- The guy's kind of
an amateur.Have you noticed, his stuff makes you look a little... bloated.
Just a little chunky.
SPIDERMAN
OK...
BROCK
Don't have to worry about that anymore, buddy.
INT. DAILY BUGLE
Hoffman is pitching a new slogan for the newspaper to Jameson.
JAMESON
Dazzling.
HOFFMAN
Just a little something the boys in the ad department and I whipped up.
As you know, circulation of the Bugle has been pretty good.
Though not as good as the New York Times
or the Daily News
or the Post or several other smaller...
JAMESON
Get on with it, moron!
The desk is shaken by Brant.
BRANT
What?
BRANT
Your blood pressure, Mr. Jameson.
Your wife told me to tell you to watch the anger.
Jameson starts to get angry.
JAMESON
You tell my wife...
He calms down.
JAMESON
Thank you.
HOFFMAN
So, I propose this campaign:
"DAILY BUGLE" -- that's obvious.
"IT'S HIP, IT'S NOW" -- I came up with that one.
"IT'S WOW" -- that's actually Eric's.
"AND HOW!" -- that's me again.
Brant hits a buzzer, and Jameson's desk shakes. She talks to him through
the Intercom.
BRANT
Time to take your pill.
Jameson reaches for a pill bottle. The desk shakes.
BRANT
Not that one.
He reaches for another pill bottle. The desk shakes.
BRANT
Not that one.
The desk shakes. The tablets fall.
BRANT
Drink plenty of water.
Jameson is very frustrated, then calms himself down.
JAMESON
Thank you. Continue.
Brock walks in and stops in front of Miss Brant's desk.
BRANT
He's busy.
BROCK
Oh, no, I'm just here to talk to you, babe.
BRANT
What's that smell?
BROCK
That's a little something called "Nice 'n' Easy".
What's on you?
BRANT
It's called "Go Away".
Jameson throws Hoffman out of his office.
JAMESON
That is the dumbest idea you've ever had. You have had some doozies...
BRANT
Blood pressure.
Jameson walks back into his office. Brock follows him in.
BRANT
Hey, where are you going?
JAMESON
Who are you?
ROBBIE
You hired him last week. Freelance.
JAMESON
I did? What's that smell?
BROCK
Brock, sir. Edward Brock junior.
Wow, I really like that shirt.
Brock hands Jameson a picture.
BROCK
Here. It's a crane accident. Check out the light source.
JAMESON
He likes my shirt.
Peter walks up to Brant's desk.
PETER
Hey, Betty.
BRANT
Hey, Pete. You better get in there.
A new guy. He's trying to sell some Spidey photos.
PETER
Uh. Thanks.
JAMESON
Parker! You're late! Maybe too late. Bruckner here beat ya to it.
BROCK
It's Brock, sir. Edward Brock junior.
Peter shows Jameson a picture.
PETER
I got you this.
Jameson shows Peter Brock's picture.
JAMESON
But he got me this.
BROCK
Wait. How'd you get that? I didn't see you. How'd you get that high?
PETER
Climbed. Nearly fell off a flagpole.
BROCK
A flagpole?
ROBBIE
Which one do we use?
JAMESON
I like Bernstein's.
ROBBIE
It's better.
JAMESON
Cheaper, too. Congratulations, son. We'll use your shot and pay you 50 bucks.
BROCK
Uh-- all right, JJ. I'm your man. I know more about what makes a good picture
than any photographer in this town. See, photography, it's not just about
-- no offense -- flagpoles. Whatever. It's about lighting. Composition. Drama.
I want a staff job, sir. I have a girl that I intend to marry, and-- I have this stupid
little dream of-- working with one of the greatest newspaper editors of our time.
J. Jonah Jameson.
JAMESON
Well, we do have an opening. Johnson quit, remember?
ROBBIE
You fired him.
JAMESON
Whatever.
PETER
Wait a minute. I know what makes a good picture,
and I've been here for a long time. If there's a staff job,
Mr Jameson, I think I deserve it.
ROBBIE
He's right, Jonah. Peter's been with us for years. He's done a great job.
JAMESON
You want a staff job, and you want a staff job. Anybody care about
what I want?
HOFFMAN
I do.
JAMESON
Shut up. Get out. I want the public to see Spider-Man for the two-bit criminal
he really is. He's a fake. He's full of stickum. Catch him in the act.
"Spider-Man with his hand in the cookie jar". Whoever brings me that photo gets the job.
What are you waiting for, Chinese New Year? Go, go, go!
BROCK
I'm on it, boss.
PETER
You'll never get that shot.
BROCK
We'll see.
EXT. STREET
Peter goes outside and sees a poster cheering on Spiderman. A man speaks to him.
MAN
You know, I guess one person can make a difference. 'Nuff said.
INT. HARRY'S HOUSE
Peter and Harry walk into his house.
BERNARD
Welcome home, Harry. Thank God you're all right.
HARRY
Thanks, Bernard.
BERNARD
Aperitif?
HARRY
Sure.
Peter gives Harry a basketball.
PETER
Got you a little homecoming present.
HARRY
Wha-- It's your old ball!
PETER
Yeah.
HARRY
Thanks, buddy. We were pretty good in the backyard, weren't we?
PETER
We were terrible. And we tried out for the varsity team.
HARRY
Yeah, for the cheerleaders.
PETER
Right.
HARRY
Hey, do I have any girlfriends?
PETER
I don't know.
HARRY
You don't? Hey Bernard, do I have any girlfriends?
BERNARD
Not that I know of, sir.
Harry passes the basketball to Peter, and Peter catches it.
HARRY
That's a pretty cool pass, huh?
PETER
It's OK.
HARRY
Looks like I'm not worrying for money.
Peter smiles.
PETER
No.
HARRY
Well, I bet I can turn this little girlfriend thing around.
Harry is talking as he looks at a big portrait of his father that is hung on the wall.
HARRY
You know, he always appreciated how you helped me through high school.
Peter looks at the portrait, too.
HARRY
I just wish I could remember more about him.
PETER
He loved you. That's the main thing.
Peter tries to change the subject.
PETER
Hey, let's watch the game in the kitchen. Get something to eat.
HARRY
OK.
Harry casually stretches out for a can that is far away from him, as a jest.
It falls, but he catches the can smoothly. He is astonished and excited.
HARRY
Whoa, did you see that?
Peter is worried.
PETER
Still got the moves.
HARRY
Yeah!
INT. THEATER
Mary Jane goes in the theater. A new actress practices singing a song that Mary Jane sang on the stage. The actress notices Mary Jane. So she stops singing. The two directors haven't noticed
Mary Jane yet.
DIRECTOR 1
Why are you stopping?
He turns and sees Mary Jane and speaks,in a small voice, to another man sitting next to him.
DIRECTOR 1
What is she doing here? Gary, you were supposed to call her agent.
He turns to face Mary Jane. He talks to her with a silky voice.
DIRECTOR 1
Hi, honey. We tried to reach you. I'm sorry.
MARY JANE
One critic?
DIRECTOR 2
No, all the papers, dear. Mary Jane, honey. Sit down. Let's explain it to you.
DIRECTOR 1
If you like, we could say you became ill.
Mare Jane leaves the theater with no words.
DIRECTOR 1
That was so poorly handled.
DIRECTOR 2
Yeah. Let's just rehearse.
EXT. PARADE
Many people are clapping for spiderman.
There are many red and blue balloons.
A drum and marching band performs spiderman's theme song.
Harry is looking at the parade. He is in a good mood.
Brock is taking photos of Gwen.
BROCK
All right, Spidey! Excuse me, miss. Let me see that gorgeous smile.
Brock takes a photo again.
GWEN
Hi, Eddie.
BROCK
You're so beautiful.
Brock continues taking pictures of Gwen.
BROCK
This is front page stuff.
GWEN
I've got to practice. I'll see you later, OK?
BROCK
How about tonight?
GWEN
Not tonight.
BROCK
Why not? Think of that amazing-- night that we had.
GWEN
We had a coffee, Eddie.
PETER
Hey, beautiful. One more. Everything OK?
Peter talks to Mary Jane from her back, turning his camera to her back.
MARY JANE
Yeah. I'm fine.
Mary Jane looks back, finding Peter.
PETER
You're not still mad at me, are you?
MARY JANE
No, Peter. I'm proud of you.
They hug and kiss each other.
PETER
Hey. I'm gonna be swingin' in from over there.
So you know where to look.
MARY JANE
Give 'em a good show.
PETER
Don't worry about that review. We're gonna be laughing about it
tomorrow night. Promise.
MARY JANE
Yeah.
POLICEMAN A
Isn't that that guy from that prison break?
POLICEMAN B
He fits.
POLICEMAN A
Hey you! Halt!
Marko runs away and hides behind truck.
POLICEMAN A
Cover the back!
Policeman pulls the truck sheet off and searches for Marko.
Then, suddenly sandman appears from inside sand loaded into truck.
POLICEMAN A
Fire!
Policeman fires gun at Sandman. So, Sandman gets angry and hits Policemen with a huge arm.
After that, Sandman flies away.
INT. PARK
GWEN
People of the city of New York, I am here today
because I fell 62 storeys and someone caught me.
Someone who never asks for anything in return.
Someone who doesn't even want us to know who he is.
HARRY
Hey, MJ.
MARY JANE
Harry.
HARRY
Where is Pete?
MARY JANE
Um-- taking somebody's picture, I guess.
Mary Jane and Harry are talking in front of the ceremony that Gwen serves as master of ceremonies.
MARY JANE
I'm so happy to see you. You look so good.
HARRY
I've never felt better. It's a weird feeling, not knowing New York.
Bump on the head, I'm just free as a bird.
MARY JANE
Will you bump me on the head?
HARRY
Bop. Hey, Pete said you're in a play.
MARY JANE
You came. You sent me flowers.
HARRY
I did? I'll come again tonight.
MARY JANE
You can't. I--I was let go.
HARRY
What happened?
MARY JANE
I wasn't very good.
HARRY
You know, this is embarrassing, but...I once wrote you a play in high school.
MARY JANE
You wrote me a play?
HARRY
Yeah.
MARY JANE
Harry, that's the sweetest thing.
Then, Gwen is giving a speech about Spiderman.
GWEN
I ask you: When you're dropping without a parachute or your store's being robbed
or your house is on fire, who is it that brakes your fall, puts out the flames and
saves your children?
The audience answers vigorously.
AUDIENCE
Spider-Man!
Peter is soaking in the praise on another building.
PETER
They love me!
GWEN
Then let's hear it! For your one and only friendly neighborhood...Spider-Man!
Spiderman jumps onto the stage and hangs in front of Gwen upside-down with his web.
The audience is excited and begin to call out together.
AUDIENCE
Kiss him! Kiss him!
SPIDERMAN
Go ahead, lay it right on me.
GWEN
Really?
SPIDERMAN
Yeah, they'll love it.
AUDIENCE
Kiss him! Kiss him!
Only a boy in the crowd opposes his careless behavior.
BOY
No, Spider-Man, no!
Gwen worries for a little while and then agrees.
GWEN
Right...
Gwen kisses Spiderman. Mary Jane is in shock.
HARRY
Hope Pete's getting a shot of this. Hey, are you OK?
MARY JANE
Yes, I'm fine.
Suddenly, a sandstorm blows through the parade. Spiderman chases it to
an armored truck. Sandman flies and attacks a car to rob a money.
PETER
Jig's up, pal.
SANDMAN
I don't want to hurt you.
Peter battles against Sandman but he releases the enemy
to save the people that Sandman throws out of the truck.
SANDMAN
Leave now.
SPIDERMAN
I guess you haven't heard? I'm the sheriff 'round these parts.
SANDMAN
OK.
Sandman punches Spiderman and he falls off the truck. Peter can't find
Sandman. He takes off his boots and pours the sand out of them.
PETER
Where do all these guys come from?
INT. FRENCH RESTAURANT
Peter speaks to the Maitre D'.
MAITRE D'
Bonsoir. Le monsieur a-t-il un "reservation"?
PETER
I'm sorry, I don't speak...
MAITRE D'
But this is a French restaurant, non?
PETER
Oui.
MAITRE D'
Name, please?
PETER
Parker, Peter.
MAITRE D'
Ah. Here we are. Table for two. Pekar.
PETER
Parker.
MAITRE D'
That is what I said. Pekar.
PETER
Um, I have a request. My girlfriend will be coming,
and I have this ring.
MAITRE D'
Oh, so you want to pop the question tonight, hein?
PETER
Yes, and I want to do something very special.
MAITRE D'
I love it. Romance. I am French.
PETER
When I signal you, if you'd bring some champagne with the ring...
MAITRE D'
In the bottom of her glass?
PETER
Perfect.
MAITRE D'
Magnifique.
PETER
Also I thought, at the same time could the musicians
play this song?
MAITRE D'
Their favorite.
PETER
And take good care of the ring.
MAITRE D'
Ah oui, with my life, monsieur.
MAITRE D'
S'il vous plaĆ»‘.
PETER
Oui.
MAITRE D'
I like you.
PETER
Thank you.
MAITRE D'
Bonne chance.
Peter smiles and imagines Mary Jane noticing the ring in her glass.
PETER
Bonne chance. OK, so... How would you like some champagne?
How'd that get in there? Aw, don't cry.
MARY JANE comes to PETER's table.
PETER
Look at you, wow! Beautiful.
MARY JANE
Thanks. Is this place in your budget?
PETER
Oh, it's a special occasion. You're on Broadway.
MARY JANE
I don't feel like much of a star tonight.
PETER
Well, you are a star. And you've earned it.
MARY JANE
Peter, you have no idea how I feel right now.
PETER
Oh no, I know exactly how you feel. Listen. I have been through this.
Happens to me all the time. I see Spider-Man posters in the window.
Kids running around with me on their sweaters. Big Halloween item.
I don't know, I guess I've become something of an icon. Like yesterday.
They keep screaming: "Spider-Man! Spider-Man!"
PETER
I don't know, I mean,I'm thinking to myself,
"I'm just a nerdy kid from Queens. Do I deserve this?"
Not ring but Gwen Stacey comes to table.
GWEN STACY
Hi, Pete.
PETER
Hi.
GWEN STACY
Hi. My parents and I are just having dinner here.
Hello.I'm Gwen Stacey.
PETER
This is Mary Jane Watson.
GWEN STACY
Oh, it's so nice to finally meet you. Pete talks about you all the time.
PETER
Gwen is my lab partner in Dr Connor's class.
GWEN STACY
Pete's something of a genius. I'd be completely lost without him.
Which actually reminds me--
Pete, if you got a picture of my kiss with Spider-Man,
could you bring it to class?
I'd really love it.
For my portfolio.
GWEN STACY
After all, who gets kissed by Spider-Man, right?
MARY JANE
I can't imagine.
GWEN STACY
Well, it was lovely to meet you.
Good night.
PETER
Good night.
Uh, she's in my science class. It's not her best subject.
MARY JANE
What? How come you never mentioned her? She's your lab partner,
you saved her life, she thinks you're a genius and she had her polished
fingernails all over you? Or didn't you notice? And she gave Spider-Man
the key to the city. I'll never forget that.
PETER
She's just a girl in my class.
MARY JANE
Let me ask you something. When you kissed her, who was kissing her?
Spider-Man or Peter?
PETER
What do you mean?
MARY JANE
You know exactly what I mean. That was our kiss.
Why would you do that? You must have known how it made me feel.
Do you want to push me away?
PETER
Push you away? Why would I want to push you away? I love you.
You're my girlfriend. She's a girl in my class, MJ.
MARY JANE
I don't feel very well. I'm sorry. I have to go.
PETER
Where are you going?
MARY JANE
Please don't follow me.
The Maitre D' brings in the champagne and the musicians begin playing the
music that Peter requested.
MAITRE D'
Here we are.
Peter takes the ring out of the champagne
INT. PETER'S APARTMENT

Hi, it's MJ. Sing a song at the beep. Beep!
PETER
Hello. Uh...I wish you'd pick up the phone. I don't know what's going on.
INT. MARY JANE'S APARTMENT
Mary Jane is listening to Peter's voice.
PETER
I don't know if you got the messages, or what.But...
I just want to talk to you.
OK. Call me, all right?
INT. PETER'S APARTMENT
As soon as Peter hangs up the phone, the terephone begins to ring.
PETER
Hello?
POLICE MAN
Mr. Parker?
PETER
Yeah?
POLICE MAN
This is Detective Neil Garettfrom the 2nd precinct.
I'm calling on behalf of Captain Stacey.
He would like you to come down to the station to speak with him.
INT. POLICE STATION
CAPTAIN STACY
Originally we thought that this man, Dennis Carradine,
was your husband's killer.
We were wrong.
PETER
What?
CAPTAIN STACY
Turns out Mr Carradine was only an accomplice.
The actual killer is still at large.
CAPTAIN STACY
The actual killer is still at large.
PETER
What are you talking about?
CAPTAIN STACY
This is the man who killed your husband.
Captain Stacy shows the picture for Peter and Aunt May.
CAPTAIN STACY
His name is Flint Marko.
He's a small-time crook who's been in and out of prison.
PETER
You got this wrong.
CAPTAIN STACY
Two days ago, he escaped.
Evidently, he confessed his guilt to a cellmate.
And we have a couple of witnesses who corroborate the story.
EXT. STREET (FLASHBACK)
Peter imagines Marko tapping his gun on Uncle Ben's window.
UNCLE BEN
No, wait, sir. You don't want to do this.
Peter imagines Marko shooting Uncle Ben.
ROBBER
Get in! What are you doing?
AUNT MAY
Would you put these photos away, please?
CAPTAIN STACY
I'm sorry, Mrs Parker. I know this isn't easy,
but please be patient with us.
We're doing our job. We will catch him.
PETER
No, you're not doing your job.
I watched my uncle die.
We chased down the wrong man.
Now you're telling me there's suspicions for two years? Witnesses?
Why weren't we told about this?
CAPTAIN STACY
Settle down, sir.
PETER
No, I have no intention of settling down!
This man killed my uncle, and he's still out there!
INT. PETER'S APARTMENT
RADIO
L-20 Parkway, all officers in the vicinity please report.
We have an abandoned vehicle and an abandoned man in the middle of the street.
Sorry, Wabash Avenue.
Mary Jane visits Peter's apartment and knocks the door.
MARY JANE
Peter, it's MJ. I'm not here about what happened at dinner. Just please open up.
Peter opens the door.
MARY JANE
Aunt May called me. She told me about what happened.
She's worried about you.
I'm worried about you.
PETER
Don't be. I'm fine.
MARY JANE
I don't want you to do something stupid.
PETER
Like try to find my uncle's killer?
MARY JANE
And do something you'll regret. Like...with that other guy.
PETER
He had a gun on me. I made a move, and he fell. I told you that.
MARY JANE
I'm not accusing you of anything.
POLICE RADIO
C-22, auto at 566, 9th Avenue...
MARY JANE
Will you turn that thing off? Peter, I'm here because I care about you.
And I know that you made a mistake and that you feel guilty, but--
I want to be here for you.
PETER
OK. I get it. Thank you. But, uh, I'm fine. I don't need your help.
Mary Jane turns to leave.
MARY JANE
Everybody needs help sometimes, Peter. Even Spider-Man.
POLICE RADIO
90 - X-ray - 98. 10-31 at 642, Madison Av..
1-3-Tom has responded 10-20 at 540, East 107...
male inside apartment B on first floor...
310-11 of a residence, 738...
Peter is frustrated, and goes to bed. He tosses and turns in his sleep. He dreams
about his encounter with the robber at the wrestling ring.
ROBBER
Don't hurt me! Just give me a chance!
PETER
What about my uncle? Did you give him a chance? Did you?
The black alien creature begins to crawl over Peter's body. Peter wakes up in a black
Spiderman suit.
PETER
Where am I? What is this? I feel...Wow. This feels good. This is something else.
INT. CONNORS' CLASSROOM
Connors and Peter are examining the alien creature.
PETER
What do you think?
CONNORS
I've never seen anything like it. I'm a physicist, not a biologist,
but...I'll look at it in the morning, run some tests.
PETER
Can we do that now?
The alien creature moves towards Peter. He covers it with a glass.
CONNORS
It seems to like you. Don't let any of that get on you.
PETER
Why not?
CONNORS
It has the characteristics of a symbiote, which needs to bond to a
host to survive. And sometimes, these things in nature, when they bind,
they can be hard to unbind.
Questions
1. What happens to Mary Jane at work?
2. Why does Mary Jane get angry at Peter at the restaurant?
3. What does the alien creature do while Peter is sleeping?
